Music Makes the World Go Round - Captain Abu Raed

Most of us escape into the worlds of our favorite music. We get lost in thought and emotion. We shut out other worlds and bury ourselves in sounds that move us. We close our eyes. We listen. We dream.

Over the last few weeks, Amin Matalqa, writer/director of Captain Abu Raed, the Jordanian movie I produced on this summer, has been immersed in what he describes as the most amazing experience of his years on earth. Amin and his composer Austin Wintory have been working on the movie score for the last couple months. Click this link for Austin's account of this collaboration.

Last night I heard for the first time the last piece of music in the entire film. When I woke up this morning, and before doing anything, I played it again and again and again. I'm sitting typing right now and the piece is playing thru my iPod intravenously into my veins because I want this music to become a part of my soul for the rest of my life.

Sneak a peak with this three mins video of the orchestra recording:

Captain Abu Raed opens in cinemas around Amman in Feb 2008... and so far is on it's way to the Dubai International Film Festival/Dec 07, and Sundance/Jan 08.

...................
I met Amin Matalqa four years ago and among the many things we talked about, he said he wanted to make a world class Jordanian film. I got to know Amin, his exceptional talent and dedication and knew that he would one day make Jordan’s first film for international audiences; and I also knew that I would do whatever it takes to support him make that dream happen, his way. Amin’s exceptional spirit and this first feature, Captain Abu Raed, are experiences I’m honored and lucky to be a part of, and this is only the beginning of a magnificent journey from a tiny country in a large and rowdy neighborhood.
