In a 1993 study at the Berlin Academy of Music, Dr. Anders Ericsson found that by age 20 top level violinists had practiced 10,000 hours.
Buddhist monks who have meditated for over 10,000 hours score off the scale for compassion.
It takes 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to become a chess grand master.
"Around the world, people typically talk of 10,000 hours of training to win an Olympic medal", emphasises Marty Toomey the high performance manager.
Malcolm Gladwell talks about the 10,000 hour rule in his book Outliers where he observes that the key to success in any field is a matter of practicing a specific task for at least 10,000 hours.
Greatness is about performance and focused attention on something over and over and over - for about 10,000 hours.
Then 10,000 is about mastery.
So when Yusuf Mansur set the goal of 10,000 steps towards a creative economy in Jordan, he wasn't kidding. It's not an exaggeration nor is it haphazard. Getting to remarkable is committed hard work. It's not easy and it's not overnight. It's a relentless, determined and deliberate effort towards a goal. And the goal of UrdunMubdi3 is about removing 10,000 small obstacles between where we are today and the creative Jordan we deserve.
Don't forget to blog about Jordan today - it's not an initiative, it's an ongoing conversation with a live pulse.

Thank you
As we take baby steps on the very long road towards reform. We continue to hope that we all help each other. This marathon is far from over
But, we can always tap into creativity to help us overcome all these obstacles
The 10,000 obstacles you want to identify is not a reasonable number!!
Very nice post. It is 10,000 small steps, 10,000 obstacles. So, I guess it's time to start, hunh?
It's annoying when self-proclaimed Jordanian reformers feel they are above reforming themselves but indulge in self-righteous blather as they deliver their worthless sermons to us. Is this a Jordanian phenomena? Arab phenomena? 3rd world phenomena? It's the do as I say not as I do phenomenon. When reformers reform themselves first they have earned the right to tell others what to do. Jordan reeks with self-appointed reformers who fail their own tests. We have grown accustomed to official preachers who have nothing going for them but their connections and family ties. you can't build a nation when those who lead are not from the people and their only claim to their prominence is a retarded political loyalty test. You know what I mean.
In reality , there are two Jordans. Always has been. One creative and successful but one that is constantly being subverted buy this county's official class. This successful Jordan thrive mostly outside of Jordan. The other Jordan--a very tiny but powerful and corrupt one--is a class of Jordanians who are appointed by decree to speak on our behalf and to claim credit for our successes.
Creative Jordan has been around even before Jordan existed. They go all the way back to Petra. Today, the real creative Jordan is not part of the official establishment and never pledged political allegiance so therefore officially they don't exist on the radar screen of the official elite.
