Summer holiday....

I've often wondered where that sacred concept of summer holidays faded to in my lifestyle. So this year, I'm off for all of August++. Happy summer with love!

Mobiles. Mobile Film. Arab Children Congress.

Just wrapped an experimental pilot program I designed for the 27th Arab Children Congress. A story and film workshop for teenagers, and tools of choice were mobile camera phones. Click to watch the workshop clip that was screened to the Congress.



This clip was made as an exercise at the workshop we piloted. It's an experiment using mobile phone cameras while observing/commenting on the experience around the congress. The objective was to realize the power one has thru that darling little mobile phone, as well as the energy of collaboration and giving voice.

We had a few hours with 12 teens to implement a film workshop for the first time at the Congress. We felt mobile cameras would be great given their physical schedule, moving around, multi activities. We also thought the teens would relate to mobiles since they all came in with one in their pockets anyway. Thru their mobiles they observed and commented on their surroundings. The objective was to realize the power one has thru that darling little mobile phone, as well as the energy of collaboration, giving voice and image, and making yourself heard and seen. Doing all this effortlessly, part of your lifestyle.

Three mentors worked with the group. Amr Toukhy, motion graphics artist, Heba Shehadeh, graphic designer, Vachan Sharma, filmmaker. They shot on Nokia's N73 3.2 camera and used SonyEricsson's W850i sound/music features for picking up and playing back audio. They edited on Premiere & After Effects. All the work was created for small screen format. When we shared this final clip at the closing of the Congress, we shrunk it into a small window on the huge theatre screen at the Hussein Cultural Center main auditorium. It looked good. We bluetoothed it to whoever wanted it on their cell that night. Looks great on a small screen!

Multiplication is so named because it would greatly increase the power and value of the transformed substance.
